Spring Swim Camp Week 6 - Recovery, Hand Entry
31-03-2010

Recovery involves keeping the elbow higher than the hand and also relaxing the arm and shoulders. A drill involving dragging your finger tips along the top of the water is a good way to get used to keeping your elbow high during recovery. A good drill to help you too relax the muscles is to shake your hand during recovery, try to be relaxed.

Zip Drill - good for practicing high elbows

Zip Drill

With hand entry its important not to cross the center line - hold a kick board in one and a do single arm front crawl, entering the water just in front of the outside of the kick board.

One armed Front Crawl

Swimming with your head up (like a water polo player) is a good drill to work on hand entry.
